I got the chance to watch the movie adaptation of TWILIGHT, the first book of the twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer. If I haven’t read the novel, I’d be so delighted with how the movie goes, by the romance and the shivers it gives out, the fullness of the characters, but then having read it first was a different story. There were a lot of flaws, a lot of changes, a lot of errors, a lot of distortion. The first part wasn’t finished yet but I already have counted like 15 mistakes, it’s frustrating. I know, I know, it was awesome, the movie itself, but the novel was a lot wonderful, for me, as somebody who loved the characters from the novel, and it was way beyond perfect. The characters were honed beautifully, and the actors who played their roles were really not that meant for it, not that I’m saying that they did not portray the roles rightly, it was just that, I’m expecting more from them.
Edward Cullen is drop-dead gorgeous, as he was seen in the eyes of the humans in the novel. Not that I’m saying that Rob Pattinson was not gorgeous, yes he was, but way different than Edward's gorgeousness I should say. He portrayed the role differently; it shows that he does not really have a background with the novel, with how Edward was described in the story. Edward was not arrogant, he was shy and lovely and loving and perfect. He did try to frighten Bella, but not in the way the movie showed it. It was different, it was not Edward Cullen, it was just Rob Pattinson. Edward was my dream guy, okay, dream vampire guy, but then, the movie did not really showed more of that “dream guy” side of Edward. It focused on the cinematic effects and all that. For me, what’s most important was not how the movie turns out to be, but on how it was directly translated from the novel itself. It’s a different thing all together, specially when you first fell in love with the fictional character of the novel, and then suddenly, the images were distorted by the movie adaptation.
The scenes were not chronologically arranged according to the novel. Oh right, as if I have the right to complain. But then, I loved the way the novel is written, so I guess, I’m expecting something more of like the novel from the movie.
but then, i loved the baseball scene. oh yeah. :) guess that was enough to best describe that part of the movie.
It was difficult, it was frustrating, especially when you get to love the characters from the novel and yet, the movie suddenly gives another interpretation. It was like a property that was destroyed, but then, Steph agreed with the producers and the director, so I guess, how the movie was interpreted was A-ok for her.
Though you might have read my rants about how the movie was a lot different from the novel, if I haven’t read the novel yet, the movie would be awesome. It was definitely a box office hit. It really is a romantic one, and you’ll fall in love with it over and over again. But I guess for me- who loved Bella and Edward and everybody else as they were described in the novel- the original story would still be the best for me. I’d just stick on with how my mind imagined and interpreted Bella and Edward, and the rest of the gang.
